Zug Region

The town of Zug is just a 25-minute train ride from Zurich main station. Zug’s main landmark, the Zytturm located on the Kolinplatz, is a large gateway leading to the oldest part of town with its impressive buildings and monuments. Tired tourists and shoppers are strongly recommended to take a break at one of the town’s countless cafés and there treat themselves to a slice of the famous Kirschtorte. Zuger Kirschtorte is a cherry cake made with kirsch distilled in Zug. Also worth a visit is Zug’s new railway station with James Turrell’s light installation, which hit the headlines worldwide when it was first opened. But whether it is a hike through the cherry orchards, a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters of Lake Zug or a journey of discovery in the wildly romantic Lorzentobel with a trip to the fairytale caves of the Höllgrotten Baar, there is no shortage of things to do in and around Zug.
