City of Zürich commemorative coin

On the occasion of the UEFA EURO 2008™ in Zürich, the Host City of Zürich is issuing a commemorative coin. This coin is part of the “HOST CITIES COLLECTION”, which is being produced by the 4 Host Cities of Basel, Berne, Geneva and Zürich in exclusive partnership with Faude & Huguenin, a mint company in Le Locle. All the coins are made of nickel silver, 925/1000 solid silver or 18 carat gold.

The issue of these collectors’ coins, which are not legal tender, gives people the opportunity to obtain an authentic and precious souvenir of the football celebration. In this way they can support what is a very special project for Zürich and its international image. The new Letzigrund Stadium with its 30,000 seats is shown on the front of the coin – this is in good company as it positioned below the popular mascots Trix and Flix©. These are the only coins authorized to depict the official symbols and wording of the UEFA EURO 2008™. In addition, the production of this multicoloured coin is a novelty in Switzerland.
