Brief information on the jury members



Claudius Seidl
Claudius Seidl has been head of the arts section of the quality German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” since 2001, and lives in Berlin. He started his career as a journalist in 1983 as a freelance film critic for the “Süddeutsche Zeitung“ and from 1985 also for “Die Zeit”. Seidl studied drama, politics and economics in Munich. He also studied the history of film under Enno Patalas at the Munich Museum of Film. In 1990, Seidl became an editor in the cultural department of “Spiegel” magazine. In 1996, he transferred to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” as deputy head of the arts section. Claudius Seidl is the author of several books; subjects include German film of the 1950s.

Jürg Ramspeck
Jürg Ramspeck has been writing a subtly humorous column on “the gaps between the headlines” in Switzerland’s biggest popular newspaper, the “BLICK”, for ten years. From 1983 until 1996 he was editor-in-chief of the Swiss weekly magazine “Weltwoche”, where he produced an ironic weekly column. Jürg Ramspeck already worked as an editor at “Weltwoche” for several years at the beginning of his career. He is also a publicist and the author of several books.


Roger Schawinski

The Swiss radio and television pioneer was Managing Director of the private television broadcaster “Sat 1” from 2003 to 2006. Today, he is a columnist and book author. His latest book “Die TV-Falle” was published in September 2007. Schawinski studied economics in St. Gall and at Central Michigan University in the United States. After gaining his doctorate in 1972, Roger Schawinski initially worked as a journalist for Swiss television. Later, he worked as editor-in-chief of the “Tat” daily newspaper and founded Switzerland’s first private radio station “Radio 24” in 1979, followed by the monthly magazine “Bonus” and in 1998 by the first private Swiss television station “Tele 24”.


Elmar Ledergerber

Elmar Ledergerber has been a city councillor since 1998 and Mayor of Zürich since 2002. He was a member of the social democratic parliamentary party in the National Council from 1987 to 1998. Until his election to the City Council, the history graduate and doctor of economics was a partner in a planning and consultancy company. Elmar Ledergerber regularly publishes two columns – in the “Zürcher Tagblatt and in the Sunday issue of the “Mittellandzeitung”.


Frank Bumann
Frank Bumann has been Director of Zürich Tourism since 2003, before which he was Head of Marketing and Communications and a member of Senior Management at Swiss Federal Railways in Berne. After studying economics in Brig, the native of the Canton of Valais went to Eastern Switzerland, where he completed his studies, specialising in organisation, at the University of St. Gall in 1989. Bumann began his career in tourism with a seven-year tenure as Director of Tourism in Saas-Fee. He is on the board of the Association of Zürich Hoteliers as well as being a member of the board of the European Cities Marketing Organisation.
